1990s Georgian Retrofit
We are excited to share our latest project: a remarkable remodel and energy retrofit of a charming Neo-Georgian country house, originally built in 1998. The homeowners approached us in early 2024 with a to extend their living space while enhancing the building's energy efficiency. Our design solution involved creating a stylish single-story extension at the rear of the home, which features an attractive overhang that provides essential summer sun shading, perfectly suited for its southerly aspect.
The project commenced in late May 2024, and through dedication and hard work, we successfully completed the entire remodel by Christmas 2024. The new extension seamlessly connects to the former kitchen area, introducing a thoughtfully designed utility space to the side. One of the key goals of this remodel was to address the lack of storage in the house, and we took full advantage of every conceivable area to create additional storage solutions.
The retrofit elements incorporated into this project include external insulation, cavity insulation, attic insulation, and the installation of passive windows and doors. Additionally, we introduced large glass sliding doors in the extension, new roof lights in the converted attic, and advanced mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems, with an air source heat pump. These enhancements not only improve the home's energy performance but also preserve its distinctive character and charm.
